Excellent Character

Vs. 10: Who can find a virtuous and capable wife?
She is more precious than rubies.

Verse 10 mentions that this woman is more precious than rubies. A ruby is a valuable stone known for its rarity and appearance. Rubies are also known for their substance: the things that run deep to the core of stone that makes it rare and beautiful.

Therefore, the more we find our identity in Christ, the better substance our character will consist of. This woman is worth more than rubies because her character is established through her relationship with God:

Her beauty runs deep below the surface
Her spirit is in line with the Holy Spirit
Her mind has been transformed by the word of God
AND her emotions exemplify her beauty because she feels deeply the afflictions of others and makes a point to do something for them.

Her substance consists of such because of her heart is yielded to His. She mirrors the heart of Christ.

Proverbs 19:13 says that a quarrelsome wife is as annoying as constant dripping. We all know how annoying it is when the sink or the shower isn’t completely turned off and it constantly drips til someone turns it off…..Well when we lack control in our tongues, we give our husbands or will give our husbands that same annoyed feeling. Quarrelsome is also known as:

Whining
Complaining
Self-willed
Froward (disobedient)…didn’t know what that meant? But it also means opposition
Deceptive (“catty”)
Difficult
Disagreeable
Angry
Ill-tempered

Who wants to be considered annoying?? NOT ME! And wow I probably, or actually I DO, fall into many of those categories at times. We MUST start practicing controlling our tongues. Scripture tells us that life and death are found in the tongue. Therefore, you’re tongue can either bring life to your relationships or death. When we exercise speaking words of encouragement, comfort, and exhortation; our friends, our family, and our husbands; they will find no need to lack trust in us…..which takes to into next Thursday. Stay on board!
